Epiphany!

I know I said I was leaving and all that, but I had a revelation last night and I just had to share it with my virtual coven!

You know for years I've been lost magickally. Once you learn the basics, if you're just a sort of folk witch type, there's not a lot more to learn. I think that's where I was getting sort of lost. Like, surely there is more I can bring to the Goddess.

I was reading Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks. I highly recommend it if you love period pieces as I do. It's set in 1666, the year of the Plague. I won't give it away but it's got good witches and bad witches. Anyway the good witches (and later one who becomes a healer) are the midwives of the village who are always there with a gentle hand if someone is ill. It reminded me what put me on this path in the first place!

Herbs! Herblore was the first thing I wanted to learn in my newbie witch days and what filled me with purpose. I was always mixing up teas for anything and every ailment. Even now, every single spell I do usually involves a gris gris bag of herbs.

But I spent a lot of time alone. And being a very hearty person, I'm rarely sick. So the herbs were unused medicinally and just collected until their potency ran out. I didn't want to replace them because they would just be wasted again.

I should have noted my excitement and gratitude when my husband brought me home some willowbark and wormwood. I should have realized here I have a husband who is willing to take any tea I offer him and a daughter who is bound to bring home all manner of ailments once she starts daycare.

At last I have patients!

So it's time to dedicate myself to work that takes the mundane and the magickal and combines it for the health of my family. And I will do more research (especially where little ones are concerned, both Iris and the little one inside).

I feel really happy and energized. Perhaps this what I've been looking for all along! I'll be all over your blogs learning and relearning. I think I remember paganpath.com having an online class or something...

And when we finally move into a house that we will OWN, I will have my little herb garden.

Off to do research. YAY!!!
